Prof. Dr. Yasemin Açık, who made the largest investment in the history of Turkish Republic in the Eastern Anatolia Region by establishing Seza Cement, was born in Elazığ. She completed her primary, secondary and high school education in the same city. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Hacettepe University and her Doctorate Degree from Fırat University, where she carried out her academic duties. She became an associate professor in 1999, a professor in 2005, and worked in the Department of Public Health and Epidemiology at Nottingham University School of Medicine in England in 1997. Attaching great importance to taking a part in non-governmental organizations throughout her academic and business life, Prof. Dr. Yasemin Açık founded Elazığ Business Women's Association (ELİKAD) in 2008 in order to increase the number of women entrepreneurs and contribute to the improvement of women's place in society. Açık still continues her active duty in many NGOs, especially in ELIKAD.
Yasemin Açık, who is ranked 7th in Turkey's 100 women entrepreneurs list prepared by the Fast Company magazine, was also included in “Turkey's 50 Most Powerful Business Women" list published by Fortune Magazine, one of the leading magazines in the business world, for four consecutive years. Prof. Dr. Yasemin Açık, who was named as one of the “48 Most Influential Women in Turkey” by Dünya Newspaper in 2018, also recieved the "Woman Rising from Anatolia" Award at the "Women Leaders of Turkey" Award Ceremony organized by Dünya Newspaper in 2021.
Prof. Dr. Yasemin Açık is married, has two children and is fluent in English.
